Your Next Step

This whole process is overwhelming, isn’t it? That’s okay. We’re here to walk you through each step along the way. If you’ve taken a pregnancy test and the results were positive, your next step is to confirm you have a viable (growing) pregnancy with free ultrasound.

It’s possible you may not be pregnant even with a positive pregnancy test. The Mayo Clinic reports that up to 20% of known pregnancies end in a natural miscarriage. An ultrasound tells you if you’ve had a miscarriage or your pregnancy is growing (viable). You can still get a positive pregnancy test while your body adjusts to no longer being pregnant.

How Does Ultrasound Work?

An ultrasound is painless. The process uses high-frequency sound waves to create an image of the inside of your uterus. The sound waves are transmitted through a gel placed on your abdomen. Our technician rubs a device known as a transducer through the gel. The echoes of the sound waves are recorded and transformed into video or images.

Why Do I Need An Ultrasound?

There are three very important reasons you need to have an ultrasound

1. Viability of the pregnancy

An ultrasound determines if you have a growing pregnancy, with a heartbeat. If not, you have most likely miscarried and should visit your health care provider.

2. The gestational age of the pregnancy

Gestational age is a fancy name for how many weeks you’ve been pregnant. If you’re considering abortion, medical abortion is only for women 10 weeks pregnant and under. Are you positive you know how long you’ve been pregnant? If not, you’ll want an ultrasound.

3. The location of the pregnancy

Some women experience an ectopic pregnancy. This is a pregnancy that develops outside the uterus, usually within the Fallopian tubes. Although rare, it’s important to be aware of because an ectopic pregnancy can be life-threatening.
